I want to build a website that's a curated list of open-source apps people can use to replace popular paid services. The idea is to help people discover self-hosted alternatives for things like Google Docs, Netflix, Spotify, and so on.

The site should organize these apps into categories like "Photo Hosting," "Music Streaming," "Notes," and "VPN." For each app, I want to display its name, a short description, and its current GitHub star count so people can see how popular it is. It would also be great to show an indicator of how recently the project was updated—maybe a little green dot for active projects and a red or orange one for those that haven't been touched in a while. The goal is a clean, simple page that makes it easy for anyone to find great self-hosted software.
