FreeRADIUS/freeradius-server ? reverse-engineered prompt

Help me get this FreeRADIUS server project built and running on my machine from a fresh clone.

I want the default server to compile, install, and start successfully, then I want a simple working setup I can use to test authentication with a sample client. Please use the repository’s existing docs and default config files as much as possible, and make any small fixes needed so the build and first run are smooth. If anything depends on current setup instructions or system packages, look up the latest docs online if you need to.

After that, please show me the exact commands to build it, start it in debug mode, and send a test request so I can verify it’s working. If you notice obvious problems in the configuration or build files, clean those up too so a new user can follow along without getting stuck.
