Build me a Zotero 8 plugin that helps me skim research papers and automatically highlight the parts most worth reading.

I want it to work right inside the PDF reader, so if I select some text it can mark the best spans in that selection, and if I want, it can also go through the whole paper and create helpful highlights for a quick review. It should feel smart but still be safe and simple by default, with a local only mode that works without any API key. If no key is set, it should stay local, and if an online model fails it should fall back gracefully.

Please include settings so I can choose the highlighting style, confidence, density, and whether I want it to focus more on results, methods, or caveats. If possible, add an optional better local reranker for supported Apple Silicon Macs, and an optional model based mode for people who want to use their own API endpoint. Keep the experience clean and integrated with Zotero rather than feeling like a separate app.
