Build me a clean R project for exploring the Deportation Data Project ICE datasets, focused on detention data and early analysis.

I want the repo to handle the raw Excel files from the download link, read them from import/input, clean and combine the detention sheets, add stay level fields, and produce daily headcount summaries by different characteristics. Please also make the analysis notebooks and supporting scripts easy to run in order, with the tasks connected the way a data workflow should be. If something is missing or unclear, use the existing README and look up current docs online if you need to.

Keep it practical and lightweight, since the data files are not included here. I mainly want a working structure that someone can clone, drop the downloaded data into the right place, and run the processing and exploratory analysis without much manual setup.
