VSCodeVim/Vim ? reverse-engineered prompt

Build me a VS Code extension that makes editing feel like Vim inside the editor.

I want normal, insert, and visual modes, with familiar motions and commands, plus support for custom key remaps and a few common Vim style behaviors like search highlight, leader keys, clipboard integration, and basic .vimrc style settings. It should feel good to use day to day, not just be a demo, so please make sure the cursor changes correctly by mode and the usual Vim shortcuts work naturally in text files.

If there are any tricky parts or recent VS Code API changes, look up the current docs online and use whatever approach is most reliable. I’d also like a clean settings experience so users can turn features on and off without editing code.
