Build me a fast command line tool that scans one or more folders and tells me how much code is in there. I want it to count files, total lines, code, comments, and blank lines, grouped by language, and handle nested comments and comments inside strings correctly. It should respect gitignore style exclude rules and also let me add my own ignore file, plus a simple config file in the project folder or home folder.
Make the output nice in the terminal, with an option to sort by different columns and optionally show per file breakdowns. It should also be able to export the results as JSON, YAML, or CBOR, and read those formats back in later if needed. Support lots of common languages, and make it work on Linux, macOS, and Windows. If you need current details for supported formats or config behavior, look up the latest docs online first.
