Build me a starter kit for a project like AI Town, based on the "Generative Agents" research paper. I want to create a small, 2D pixel-art virtual world where multiple AI characters can live, socialize, and have conversations with each other. They should have their own personalities and remember past interactions.

The most important feature is customization. I want to be able to easily define my own characters, their backstories, and the layout of the town itself. The system should be flexible enough to connect to different LLMs. I want to start by running it locally with a model from Ollama, but also have the ability to switch to a cloud provider like OpenAI. Make it easy to get running on my machine for development, maybe using Docker, and ready to be deployed online later.
