Build me a terminal app that lets someone download videos by pasting a link or launching it with a URL, then choosing from a list of available qualities with estimated file sizes. It should feel like a real little app in the terminal, with a clean interface that works well with both mouse and keyboard, and it should save the finished file into the Downloads folder with a sensible name and show the full path when it is done.
It should work with YouTube, X, Instagram, Threads, TikTok, and other sites that yt dlp supports, and it should also handle audio only mp3 downloads. If possible, make it smart about finding or downloading the yt dlp engine on first run, and use ffmpeg when needed for audio or merging.
Also include a simple Chromium browser extension that adds a download button on YouTube and a right click option on other sites, then hands the video link off to the terminal app on my computer. Keep setup easy, no server, no account, no config files, and make the errors understandable for normal people.
