I want to build an open-source AI coding assistant, kind of like a command-line-first version of Cursor or Copilot. It should have a really polished terminal user interface where I can chat with an AI to get help with my code. The agent should be able to read my project files, write new code, and execute commands for me.

A key feature is that it needs to be model-agnostic. Users should be able to plug in their API keys for models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, or even connect to a local model running on their machine.

It should also have different "modes" or "agents." One powerful mode for active development that can edit files freely, and a safer, read-only "planning" mode that just analyzes code and asks for permission before running any commands.

Finally, besides the terminal app, let's also create a cross-platform desktop app for Windows, Mac, and Linux that provides the same functionality. Let's use TypeScript for this.
