Build me tmux from this source tree so I can compile it locally and run it like the real terminal multiplexer.

I want the project to build cleanly from a fresh clone with the usual configure and make flow, and I want any missing setup steps filled in so it is easy to get working on a normal Unix like machine. If there are build issues, fix them, and if you need to check current dependency or build notes online, go ahead and look them up.

Please keep the result focused on getting a working tmux binary with the existing features, things like sessions, windows, panes, copy mode, and the command line interface. If there are obvious rough edges in the build docs or example config that would help a new user, improve those too.
