Build me a small, fast desktop text editor for the GNOME and Linux world, something simple enough for everyday writing and coding but still full featured. It should handle UTF 8 text properly, let me work on multiple documents in the same window, and include things people expect like syntax highlighting, search and replace, revert to the saved file, printing with print preview, drag and drop from the file manager, and a real preferences screen.

I also want it to open both local files and remote files, and feel nicely integrated with the GNOME desktop. Please include a plugin system so features can be enabled or disabled, and ship a few useful plugins like word count, spell checking, change case, a file browser, snippet expansion, sort, insert date and time, external tools, and a tag list. If possible, support plugins written in Python too.

Keep it lightweight, native feeling, and practical. If you need details, look up the current GNOME docs online.
