Build me a universal document converter that can take all kinds of text formats and turn them into other formats cleanly. I want it to work from the terminal and also be usable as a library, so I can convert things like Markdown, HTML, Word files, ebooks, LaTeX, wiki text, and bibliography files back and forth without losing too much formatting.

It should handle real world documents well, keep headings, lists, links, tables, footnotes, citations, and code blocks looking right, and make it easy to read from a file, standard input, or write to a file. If it can support custom filters or small scripts for special cases, that would be great too.

Please make it feel polished, with good help text, sensible defaults, and solid tests. Look up current docs online if you need to, but keep the experience simple for normal users who just want to convert a document and get on with their day.
