redpanda-data/redpanda ? reverse-engineered prompt

I want this repo turned into a working local Redpanda setup that I can actually run and try. The goal is a Kafka compatible streaming data server that feels lightweight and simple to operate, without ZooKeeper or a JVM. Please get it running in the easiest stable way for my machine, and if that is not possible, build it from source using the project’s normal build process.

When you are done, I want a basic end to end check that proves it works, like creating a topic, sending a few messages, and reading them back. If there is a simple admin or CLI flow already in the project, use that. Please make sure the service starts cleanly, note any config I would need to touch, and leave me with the exact commands to start, stop, and verify everything.

If there are docs or install steps that have changed, look up the current docs online and use the right approach.
