Build me a small, portable C library for compression that works like a lightweight zlib replacement. I want it to handle lossless deflate and inflate, be easy to drop into other projects as a single source and header file, and also include simple support for reading, writing, and appending ZIP files, plus a basic PNG writer.

Please make it build cleanly with CMake and Meson, and include a few working examples and tests so I can see how to use the main APIs right away. Keep it dependency free and friendly to GCC, clang, and Visual Studio. If anything is unclear, look up the current docs online and match the common zlib style API as closely as makes sense.
