Build me this proxy chaining tool so I can run normal Linux apps through SOCKS4, SOCKS5, or HTTP proxies without changing the app itself.

I want a clean build from source, a working configure and make flow, and a usable command line wrapper that can launch something like telnet or ssh through the proxy chain. It should handle DNS through the proxy too, support chaining multiple proxies, and work on the platforms this project mentions. If anything is unclear, look up current docs online or check the existing tests and examples in the repo.

Please make sure the default config and install steps are sensible, and that the built binary can be run from the build directory without installing. If there are obvious bugs or missing pieces that would stop a normal person from using it, fix those too and add or update tests if needed.
