shikijs/shiki ? reverse-engineered prompt

Build me a beautiful, accurate syntax highlighting library for code snippets, something like Shiki.

I want it to take code and a language and return nicely styled output that works well for markdown, docs sites, and developer tools. It should feel polished and reliable, support lots of common languages, and be based on TextMate grammars so the highlighting is precise. I’d like it to work with modern TypeScript and include a simple way to choose themes, highlight strings of code, and use it in both server and browser style workflows.

Please set it up with a clean README, a few examples, and tests so I can see it working right away. If you need to check current docs or package details online, go ahead and do that. I’m mostly looking for the core library and a good developer experience, not a full app.
