Build me a responsive Star Wars character directory app in React.

I want a simple login screen with a demo account, then a protected dashboard where users can browse Star Wars characters from the SWAPI. Show the first page of characters with pagination and a search box so people can find characters by name. Each character card should open a details modal with the character info like height, weight, birth year, number of films, and home world details. Make the modal easy to close with the Escape key, clicking outside, or a close button.

Please add a nice loading state while data is being fetched, an error state with a retry option, and an empty state when no results are found. The app should also log the user out automatically after 2 hours.

Make it look good on desktop and mobile, use DiceBear avatars if helpful, and include integration tests for the main flow. If you need to check current docs or API details, look them up online.
