I want to build my own open source AI code editor, basically a Cursor alternative based on VS Code.

It should feel like a normal code editor where I can open a project, browse files, edit code, use the terminal, and ask an AI agent to help with the whole codebase. The AI should be able to suggest changes, apply edits, and show me what changed before I accept it. I also want checkpoints so I can easily compare, visualize, and roll back AI changes if something goes wrong.

Please make it privacy focused. Let me connect my own AI provider keys, like OpenAI or Claude, and also support using local models if possible. Messages should go directly to the provider and the app shouldn’t keep my data on some separate server.

Use the existing VS Code style experience as the base, keep it practical, and look up current docs online if you need to.
